"Kim has made a profound impact on my child, myself and my entire family through her support and coaching at Bridge to Bravery. My daughter has significant medical complexities and with them, come many challenging medical experiences that I felt ill-equipped to help her navigate, let alone her siblings and myself as we experienced these hardships together. Kim's experience and guidance helped us all process what we were experiencing and empowered us to handle the challenges with courage and confidence. Among many other things, Kim has helped my daughter gain coping skills for her chronic pain (and she's only 7 years old), be brave and confident when having blood draws, advocate for herself on how she wants anesthesia to be administered and the care plan to help her fall asleep calmly, learn to take "yucky medicines" with a feeling of control, and so much more. Honesty, Kim's work is invaluable in empowering my child to navigate her medical needs, as they can be very traumatic without the right tools available to handle them. And along with empowering my daughter, she has taught our whole family how to best support her with encouragement, confidence and clarity. We love Kim so much that she is known as "Aunt Kim" in our household. If you are contemplating using Bridge to Bravery services, I can confidently say, you will be so grateful you did!"
“It has been such a blessing that we were referred Kim to us when my wife’s cancer became terminal. Kim helped us make some very important final memories with the paintings that you helped our daughter make at hospice. Since her passing, our daughter has benefitted more than I can say from having visits with you. Your help with her vocabulary about the disease and having her be willing to talk about my wife’s death and her feelings have helped both of us heal as much as possible. The painting you and my daughter did with their picture in the heart may be my daughter’s most valuable possession and is prominently displayed in her room. We look forward to continuing our journey with you.”
“Kim worked with our son to help him get over a morbid fear of needles. As a result, our son was able to get his COVID vaccine. Kim empathically connected with our son immediately, where he was unwilling to talk to anyone else about his fears. She gave our son a plan and helped him talk through what he would do through every step of the process. Kim worked with the vaccination clinic to help prepare them for addressing our son’s fears. Throughout the process, she went above and beyond and made the experience manageable for our son. I would highly recommend Kim for helping any child with any medical fears or phobias.”
“My daughter had always been nervous about shots but no more than I would expect for her age. When we went to get her first COVID vaccine she had BIG, huge, very scared feelings about it. After that experience I started looking for ways to help ease her anxiety and fear, because I knew more shots would be necessary. I am so grateful we found Kim. I had a phone call with Kim to inform her about our past experiences and then we scheduled a zoom meeting with my daughter to go over some strategies to help her with her next shot.
The difference was astounding.
Kim was so patient and compassionate. Kim walked her through what would happen and taught her the different choices she got to make and gave her a check list of all the brave things she would overcome along the way. With this little bit of empowerment, our appointment had very few tears, that were limited to the injection itself as opposed to screaming crying the entire time from getting out of the car to getting back in the car with the first shot. I have been recommending Kim to everyone since. My daughter even wanted to call Kim and tell her how well she did. She was very proud of herself for being brave.”
